In small groups,the students write the storyline of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet in exactly 20 words (not sentences, just key words)
The groups then compare and share their lists.
If you have time, the groups can then produce one list they all agree on, containing 15 of the most important key words from all groups. This is a good exercise in restriction, and it usually produces nice discussions on what is more important.
Show students the video without sound and ask them to yell out anything that was on their lists and can be seen on the video.
Discuss how the story written so long ago is still so powerful and inspiring.
Surely as teenagers, they have been in love before. But ask them if they ever wanted their love back and how they went about it. Have them share stories either in groups or all together.
Play the video again with sound and ask them what the lyrics are about. The pronunciation can be a bit hard to understand, if that happens, you can play the song again with lyrics.

Have groups discuss what the lyrics mean. If appropriate, have them sing, focusing on the pronunciation of know/now, the g in wrong/long, toward and similar.
For homework, have them search the internet for background stories on the song, the singer or the video and share the next lesson.
